The efficacy of holistic grazing management in communal grazing system
English

About The Book

This book is about managing high altitude communal rangelands using holistic grazing management in the Kingdom of Lesotho. For a long time communal rangelands in Lesotho have been managed using a traditional continuous grazing system. However this grazing regime has resulted in severe rangeland degradation leading to a high density of shrub (Chrysocoma ciliata L. (Asteraceae syn. C. tenuifolia) encroachment in the highlands. Therefore the results of this study provides sufficient information that will lead to sustainable holistic grazing management implementation in Lesotho communal rangelands thus leading to improvement of forage production and livelihoods of the community at large. Furthermore the study will provide a better understanding by communal livestock farmers about HGM principles and implications on livestock production and will further improve farmers’ perceptions about HGM performance
