The environment in question

The municipality of Maricá/RJ known for its tourist attractions has also attracted a considerable number of pre-salt industrial exploration projects in recent years. One of these is the project to build the Port of Jaconé an important part of Comperj's logistics. Far from being a consensual development project it has made Maricá an important stage in the environmental and political-ideological struggles in the state of Rio de Janeiro constituting an arena for public debate mobilizing various actors (including environmentalists residents and friends of Maricá businesspeople state agents and politicians fishermen etc.) around the environmental issue. Thus through qualitative research we sought to carry out an investigation aimed at capturing the meanings of the discourses the strategies interests and intentions mobilized in the process of constructing the environmental problem around the Port of Jaconé in Maricá.
