It is said that there was a time</p><p>when there were no men . . .</p><p>That we slowly came to be</p><p>that we emerged into the order of things</p><p>a product of that order</p><p>a minded-something out of a mindless chaos . . .</p><p>That we did not thrust ourselves into being</p><p>but simply awoke one morning</p><p>and were here . . .</p><p>That we are part of an emerging order</p><p>a vast mindless system of comings and goings</p><p>in a roulette-wheel universe.</p><p>. . . but the same fantastic energies</p><p>roaring in the hearts of suns</p><p>are flickering persistently within ourselves</p>
