The Face of Deceit

Prologue. The Accident.  . It Was Late Afternoon And The Day Was Still Cloudy; Remnants Of The Earlier Rain Still Rendered Traffic Unsafe. He Had Left The Edifice And Was Heading Towards His House On The Outskirt Of Town. The Structure He Called Home Sat On Top Of A Hillside Community Which Housed A Handful Of Beautiful Chalets; A Beautiful Forest And A Tiny Lake To The Right Side Facing The Mountainous Terrain That Surrounded The Crested Residential Area. . Detective First Class Bryant Shelby Was Deep In Thought. The Death Of His Father Some Months Prior The Threatening Phone Calls Increasing By The Day Plus The Hacking Of His Computer--Of Which He Was Certain--Lingered In His Mind Taking A Toll On Him. . The Rain Had Started Again And Was Turning Into A Downpour. Because He Had Traveled This Path Hundreds Of Times Bryant Knew How Treacherous This Winding Road Through The Mountain Could Be. One Of The Attributes That Had Attracted Him To This Community Was The View And The Privacy It Had To Offer. This Was His Favorite Place In The Whole World. The Cabin Atop Of The Hill Was His Home His Refuge.  The Rain Was Brutally Hammering Against The Windshield. . The Wipers Were Working At Full Speed; Still Bryant Could Not See Where He Was Going. With No Emergency Side Parking He Could Not Afford To Stop And Risk Causing An Accident. As Bryant Was Turning Around The Curve That Took Him To The Other Side Of The Hill The Car Slid Sideways On The Wet Pavement. . When He Tried To Slow Down He Noticed The Brakes In The Car Were Not Working. He Tried Again And Nothing Happened; The Next Curve Was A Dangerous One Even Under Normal Conditions. It Was Coming Fast And The Car Could Not Be Stop. The Vehicle Swirled To The Right Side Hitting The Guardrail. It Happened With Such Force It Threw The Automobile Across The Road Against The Left Sidewall Formed By The Mountain. The Impact Was So Huge That It Propelled The Car Back To The Guardrail This Time Forcing It Off The Cliff.
