Preface by MULEKA KIMPANGA CelestinOrdinary ProfessorKatanga went into secession on July 11 1960; an act considered as rebellion against the power of Leopoldville. It is also in Katanga that four wars against the Mobutu regime were launched namely Shaba I (80-day war) Shaba II ( 6-day war) Moba I and Moba II all under the leadership of Katangese leaders. All these facts combined have sharpened the vigilance of the Marshal President on this Strategic Province for the country. He decided to enslave its natives who were now considered as genuine rebels to be watched terrorized and controlled. He instituted the peace of arms. Thus throughout his reign Mobutu was for Katanga the true potentate the ruthless slave driver.
