William James Linton was a craftsman born in an England ruled by land-owning despots and capitalist money-grubbers - pursuers of individual greed as opposed to human need. He became active in political affairs involving himself in the workers' struggle for universal suffrage and a democratic Britain through his involvement in the Chartist Movement. A prolific writer covering political affairs novels and memoirs he also wrote and illustrated children's books.
