Two buddies in their late sixties decide to take a cross-country road trip in their vintage RV to the Mecca of vintage cars - Jay Leno's house.

Lifelong friends Steve and Don stumble upon an old bus in a junk yard while looking for a part for Steve's antique car. They decide to resurrect the bus and convert it to an RV. So much time and effort is spent on the project that their respective girlfriends give them an ultimatum The bus or us.

Since their Mantra is a quote from Jay Leno There's simply no substitute for immaturity they chose the bus and set it up on the beach of an eastern resort town. Life was good until the Mayor evicts them calling the bus an eyesore. Steve had always wanted to visit Jay Leno's collection of old cars and this was his chance. Don had obtained a 1950 Rand McNally road atlas so they decide to use that to direct them across country. Because of the hasty retreat there was not time to finish the engine work and a minor plumbing issue. The parts it lacks causes the bus to smoke profusely and the bathroom sink sprays you in the face. As a result they encounter the ire of the Environmental Protection Agency with the smoke and annoy guests with the sink. Jeannie and Jane two collage age girls who innocently ask to use the bathroom are the first victims.

They come across many interesting situations along the way. On one occasion traffic was held up due to a fallen tree. Steve and Don were able to cut up tree and clear the roadway allowing two young ballerinas to make it to their first recital on time just before the EPA arrives. On another occasion a group of school children asked for a tour of the bus and a little girl inadvertently comes up with the name 'Flxible Flyer'

As they are approaching Las Vegas the come across Jennie and Jane again. The girls are on their way to Las Vegas for a cousins wedding and have broken down on the side of the road. Don and Steve assist them in getting to the wedding on time and repair the car.

The EPA eventually arrests them but they use a clever ruse to gain their freedom. At least until they reach Jay Leno's house where the EPA again intercepts them. After some wrangling from Jay the situation is resolved and the tour of Jay Leno's Garage takes place and the EPA are invited to join in.

Jay becomes enamored with the bus and convinces Steve and Don that trading for a Sailboat was a good idea. They remember their Mantra and agree. The Boys are at Santa Monica beach waiting for the title transfer to be completed when they run across Jeannie and Jane again. They persuade the girls to be crewmates for a voyage to the Caribbean for the winter. They have a bonfire and sing Kum-Ba-Yah.
