The Foreign Missionaries served in India / இந்தியாவில் அரும்பணியாற்றிய அயல்நாட்டவர்

About The Book

Most of the missionaries of eighteenth and nineteenth century missions believed that British rule in India was an opportunity provided by God to lift India from ignorance about God and superstitions. Further the missionary work in eighteenth-nineteenth century in India was grounded in the binary distinctions of European and Indians. Hence the British had a simple goal of raising the people to a higher and superior culture.

They may not all be Mother Teresa or Annie Besant but they have left their homes and families in distant places to settle down in India for the love of this land and its people. In big ways and small they are expressing that love by trying to bring about change for the betterment of our country. The least we can do is read about their work and appreciate their efforts here. In this book it is highlighted some of the missionaries such as Ami Carmichael Bartholomlaus Ziegenbalg Mother Teresa Ida Sophia Scudder Romulus Vittagar Sister Nivedita Joys Mansfield Woollard William Carry Sarah Tucker Constantine Joseph Beschi Robert Caldwell and Colonel John Pennycuick.
