John Davys Beresford (1873-1947) was a prolific English writer best known for his literary criticism of H.G. Wells as well as early science fiction inspired by Wells. Beresford was afflicted with infantile paralysis but was able to partially overcome this becoming a professional writer. In addition to literary criticism and science fiction he wrote ghost and horror stories. English writer and creator of The Wombles Elisabeth Beresford (1926-2010) was his daughter.
