About The Book

This story begins by introducing each of the five brothers/fingers which also allows adults to play along using their own fingers (or finger puppets) with their children. For example Thumb Tom was short and somewhat stout and like to reach a long way out. From there the story creatively unfolds to reveal how each of the brothers would like to play based on what they do best. But when those ideas are at odds with one other a playful squabble unfolds as may normally happen with siblings until the brothers realize that they must find a way to work together. The result is the spelling of the word Teamwork in sign language. This story teaches children about the values of working together with others as well as provides all the sign language letters enabling multiple readings of this beautifully illustrated 34-page book. It was a great read and timely. Timely because it is a book about inclusiveness. It includes people who have a disability while teaching children about sign language. Kelly Fitzgerald Director of Library Services and Programs and Head of the Childrens Book Department at the Weekhawken Public LibraryI loved this book. It was a unique way of explaining sign language so a young child could understand it and how your hands could work to explain a silent world of words. D K Davis former elementary teacher.
