When He Meets A Young Woman Named Edith He Is Immediately Drawn To Her Free Spirit And Her Zest For Life. Edith Introduces Halstead To A New World Of Art Culture And Self-Expression And He Begins To See Life In A New Light. However Halstead'S Newfound Happiness Is Short-Lived. When Edith'S Past Comes Back To Haunt Her She Is Forced To Leave New York And Return To Her Hometown. Halstead Is Devastated By Her Departure And He Falls Back Into His Old Habits Of Work And Social Engagements. Despite His Heartbreak Halstead Realizes That Edith Has Changed Him For The Better.
