She took to writing at an early age and soon became a popular author writing for such periodicals as Recreation and Outing. Her first two novels were Song of the Cardinal (1903) and Freckles (1904). She was a devoted naturalist and her body of work includes seven nature books two books of poetry and 12 novels.</p>
