As curfew bells thicken the fog and steam chokes the narrow streets three unlikely allies are drawn beneath the big top's gaslight: a runaway machinist with grease under her nails a gutter-born pickpocket who trusts only what he can steal and a weary constable who has seen too much to keep believing in order.
