First Published in 1980. The peninsula of Aden on the south-west coast of Arabia lies 100 miles east of the straits of Bab al-Mandab at the entrance to the Red Sea. It has an area of 21 square miles the greater part of which is uninhabitable being covered by precipitous hills the highest of which is Mount Shamsan 1775 feet. This book is a history of Aden from 1839 to 1872.
