The Human Essence

Starting from Marx’s analysis of the labour-process Lenin’s theory of reflection and Mao Tse-tung’s theory of perceptual and rational knowledge the author endeavours to show that science and art are two interdependent forms of the organisation of social energy both rooted in the labour-process. The argument ranges over a number of interrelated problems in linguistics psychology anthropology musicology and literary criticism not to mention philosophy and history.
