About The Book

Sickle cell anemia is a kind of anemia in which there are not enough red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body. Normally the flexible and round red cells move easily through the blood vessels. In sickle cell anemia the red blood cells become rigid with a sickle-like shape. These cells can get stuck in small blood vessels irregularly which can slow or block flow and oxygen to parts of the body. It will be explained in the health section that there is no cure for most people with sickle cell anemia but some treatments can relieve pain and help prevent complications associated with the disease. Regarding the destructive impact of physical diseases such as sickle cell disease (SCD) on the mental health of individuals and their families and lack of psychological care it is critical to teach cognitive-behavioral interventions to improve family functioning and to mitigate the perceived stigma in these families.
