This paper deals with the implementation of antenatal classes in Kosovo. The birth rate in Kosovo is one of the highest in Europe. Family planning is largely non-existent and sex education is often very poor. The high birth rate in Kosovo is both a symptom and a cause of many existing and emerging problems. If labour is prolonged labour-inducing drugs are used liberally. Husbands and other family members are not allowed to be present during hospital births. There are no antenatal classes so women arrive at the delivery room unprepared at least for their first birth. No later than 24 hours after giving birth the woman leaves the hospital with her baby and is accompanied home by the entire family who have been waiting for her.
