The influence of tomato by-products on feed for Japanese quails

About The Book

A large volume of agro-industrial by-products and waste of good nutritional quality could be used in animal feed thus reducing production costs. This study assessed the effect of different levels of tomato by-product in the rations of Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) on the physical quality of the eggs. 120 birds were housed in a conventional shed with galvanised wire cages and movable side curtains. The treatments consisted of a reference diet based on corn and soybean meal and three rations with levels of 5 10 and 15 % ST as a substitute for ground corn. The physical quality characteristics of the eggs were assessed (egg weight percentage of yolk albumen and shell shell thickness Haugh Unit yolk index and colour).
