For François Jacob nature is a blind and demented tinkerer. Yet we are greatly amazed by her works as if she were an artist. Moreover the organization of living systems manifests an ethical altruistic character which is perceived by sociobiologists. In reality the process of natural selection is motivated leading to the perfection and beauty of its works by cutting here and pasting there for structural and functional readjustment: it is a tinkerer of genius. Moreover natural selection is not strictly a blind tinkerer but because it has a purpose which is the perfection and beauty of its work it leaves unsuspected a hidden and conscious intention.
