Poet and film-maker Aranyak Chakrabarty's first major work in poetry
The Inheritance of Solitude (2021) is a hermeneutical
text of self-examination based on observing the phenomena of everyday
life while in search of “the beyondâ€. The poems often start from a
somewhat local but instantly recognisable scene or observation and
then pans out to consider the meaning of this in more abstract terms ; it
begin with ordinary daily occurrences and then become more thoughtful
and transcendent as the poem progresses.
An intellectual consciousness of the relationships between existential
crisis and spiritual meditation can be read through the lines.
The traces of angst looms beneath the otherwise underplayed language
of poetic emotion. However the aim of the young poet is not to create
unrest and chaos in the world but to heal and balance it.
