Inspiration and Truth of Sacred Scripture

Formally approved by Pope Francis this present work is thecontribution of the Pontifi cal Biblical Commission toward amore adequate understanding of the concepts of inspiration andtruth that respects both the nature of the Bible and its signifi cancefor the life of the Church. Drawing on a close reading of the Scripturesthemselves the document focuses on three main aspects:1. The inspiration of Sacred Scripture and the exploration ofits divine provenance2. The truth of the Word of God emphasizing the messageabout God and his project of salvation3. Challenges that arise from the Bible itself on account ofcertain aspects that seem inconsistent with its quality ofbeing the Word of God
