The political events during the English Renaissance period made England a fertile field for political studies of the great dramatic and poetic texts. Shakespearean dramatic texts are among the best that clearly reflected the political events of their times. Accordingly this study offers a critical analysis of the issue of kingship in three tragedies by William Shakespeare: Hamlet King Lear and Macbeth.A great deal of critical works have been produced on the issue of kingship from different angles. This study tries to make use of the most relevant and recent of these critical works. It is divided into four chapters and a conclusion.
