The King of the Mountains

The novel is set in the Balkans and follows the story of two travelers Michel and Olivier who become embroiled in the politics and power struggles of the region. The central character of the novel is a mysterious and feared bandit known as the King of the Mountains. He commands a band of loyal followers and is feared by the local authorities and inhabitants alike. Michel and Olivier two Frenchmen traveling through the area encounter the King and become involved in his schemes. As the story progresses the true identity of the King is revealed and Michel and Olivier find themselves in grave danger. The novel explores themes of power authority and identity as well as the cultural and political dynamics of the Balkan region.
