The Kingdom of God is Within You

The book explores Tolstoys ideas on nonviolent resistance and the concept of the Kingdom of God which he believed was an internal state of being that could be achieved through a rejection of violence and the teachings of the Sermon on the Mount. Tolstoy argues that the true meaning of Christianity has been obscured by the institutional church which has become corrupted by state power and violence. He calls for a return to the original teachings of Jesus which emphasize nonviolent resistance love of ones enemies and an emphasis on inner spiritual transformation.
