About The Book

The Kojiki also known as Records of Ancient Matters is a fundamental Japanese text that dates back to the early 8th century (711-712 AD). It is the oldest extant chronicle in Japan and serves as a compilation of myths legends and historical accounts of the origin of the Japanese archipelago its deities and the imperial lineage. Basil Hall Chamberlain (1850-1935) was a British scholar and Japanologist who made significant contributions to the study of Japanese language culture and history. He translated the Kojiki into English allowing a broader audience to access and understand the ancient Japanese myths and traditions.
