The title story The Little Room is perhaps the most famous of the collection and is a classic example of American supernatural fiction. It explores themes of perception reality and the supernatural wrapped in a psychological mystery. The Little Room centers on a newlywed couple who visit the husband's family home where the wife is shown a small room in the house that is ornately decorated. However when she returns to the room later it appears completely different with plain furnishings instead of the opulent ones she had seen before. The mystery deepens as no one else in the house seems to notice or believe her leaving her to question whether the room's transformation is real or a figment of her imagination. The story is notable for its ambiguous ending which leaves the mystery unresolved and open to interpretation making it a haunting and memorable tale.
