The London Underground Railway

While the planning started in the 1830s the reasons for such an early decision to place public traffic underground lie in earlier days. These are of historical societal and political nature and could at least be traced back to the Mediaeval Ages. The present work analyses the course in which London became the world's largest city until 1925. Soon the growing city was in need of a means of transport to avoid the notoriously congested streets.
