The Lurking Fear

The horror short story The Lurking Fear was written by American author H. P. Lovecraft. Written in November 1922 it was initially released in Home Brew''s January through April 1923 issues.The story is told by an unnamed investigator of strange horrors who is looking into the murder of a group of about 60 backwoods outcasts in a remote area of the Catskills. The murders happened during a particularly violent electrical storm and appear to have been committed by an unknown clawed animal. The narrator quickly learns that the abandoned Martense home is the subject of the most terrifying local legends so he and two friends decide to spend the night there.
