The lytic property of Bacteriophages on Salmonella species

About The Book

The control of pathogens such as Salmonella is vital to control economic loss animal and human morbidity and mortality. The use of antibiotics in the control of these pathogens is facing challenges such as development of resistance and adverse side effects. There is need for other antibacterial agents to be used together with or as alternative to antibiotics. Bacteriophages which infect specific bacteria show specialty in this aspect and is known to be a potential bio-control agent against pathogenic bacteria like Salmonella. This study was aimed at isolating characterizing and determining the lytic property of bacteriophages on Salmonella species obtained in the course of the study from an egg and clinical isolate from the University’s Sickbay.
