The Magician

The novel tells the story of Oliver Haddo a charismatic and sinister magician who is believed to be based on the real-life occultist Aleister Crowley. Haddo uses dark arts and magic in his pursuit of ultimate power and knowledge. The plot explores themes of the supernatural mysticism and the consequences of dabbling in forces beyond human understanding. The main character Arthur Burdon becomes entangled with Haddo and the narrative unfolds as a psychological and supernatural drama. As with many of Maugham's works The Magician delves into the complexities of human relationships and the consequences of personal choices.
