The Magnificent Ambersons

<p><em>The Magnificent Ambersons</em> by Booth Tarkington is a novel about the rise and fall of a wealthy Midwestern family during the industrialization of America. The story centers on George Amberson Minafer a proud and spoiled young man who believes his family's fortune and social status will last forever. However as new technologies-especially the automobile-transform society the Ambersons' wealth and influence decline. George's arrogance leads him to reject progress and alienate those around him including his mother's former love Eugene Morgan an automobile pioneer.
