The Mahouka people in Ivory Coast

The Mahouka have a very fine civilization. It is summed up in the meaning and origin of their names. A lineage organization that inspires respect for elders and the dignity of tradition. The Mahouka sub-groups whatever their locality obey a political and religious organization. This society is hierarchical which means that each social stratum knows its role. Mahouka women are multidimensional. They work efficiently in the field. During festive periods and weddings they play a major role with their culinary specialties. However it is important to stress that the Mahouka are not the only people to live in the Bafing region. We have the presence of the DAN or Yacouba called Kla and Youaanigbè. They have been guests of the Mahouka since the 16th century. These Kla and Youaanigbè natives contributed to the enrichment of Mahouka civilization.
