It was included in Virginia Woolf and her husband Leonard Woolfs first collection of short tales Two Stories which was released in 1917. Later in 1921 it was released in New York as a piece of a different collection titled Monday or Tuesday. The Mark on the Wall is a stream of consciousness monologue written in the first person.
