The narrative of two brothers James and Henry Durie is told in Robert Louis Stevenson's 1889 book The Master of Ballantrae. Henry is a ruthless and ambitious explorer whereas James is the heir to a Scottish estate. Henry is banished to the Americas following a tragic family quarrel while James stays in Scotland. Years later Henry goes back to Scotland in search of retribution starting a brutal fight with his brother. James and Henry fight for control of the family estate as they go on a mysterious vengeful and eventually redemptive adventure with the aid of Alison a childhood friend.
