About The Book
Description
Author
The narrative is set in the late 19th century and follows two main characters: John Strock a special agent of the United States government and Philip Evans a newspaper reporter. They become intrigued by reports of strange and seemingly impossible events occurring in various parts of the world including unexplained disasters and the appearance of an unidentified flying machine. As the story progresses Strock and Evans embark on a mission to uncover the identity and motives of the enigmatic Master of the World. Their investigation takes them to remote locations and puts them in dangerous situations as they try to unravel the mysteries surrounding this powerful individual. Along the way they encounter extraordinary inventions such as an incredible flying machine and an indestructible submarine both of which are used by the Master to carry out his plans. As the climax approaches Strock and Evans finally confront the Master of the World revealing his true identity and motivations. Without giving away too much of the plot the story delves into themes of power technological advancement and the responsibility that comes with wielding such power. The Master of the World showcases Jules Vernes fascination with science and technology as well as his ability to weave adventure and mystery into his narratives. While not as well-known as some of Vernes other works such as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in Eighty Days this novel still provides an entertaining and thought-provoking reading experience.
