IN man's attempt to state the nature of the substratum of the universe it has been common in the past to describe the One Life as a Person. This Personality of God is often imaged as having one attribute of man's physical nature which is breathing. In the Hindu tradition the word Atman is from a root meaning to breathe and a verse in the Rig Veda describes the One as breathing. Turning westwards the phrase Spirit of God is constant in Judaism and Christianity the word spirit coming from a Latin root signifying breathing.
