About The Book
Description
Author
The Memoirs of Giacomo Casanova is a famous autobiography that details the life of Giacomo Casanova an 18th-century Italian adventurer gambler and libertine. The memoirs were written between 1789 and 1798 and provide a fascinating account of Casanovas life including his many romantic conquests his time as a spy and his experiences as a prisoner. The memoirs were initially written in French and were published in a series of volumes. Casanovas writing style is very engaging and he describes his adventures in great detail making it easy for readers to picture the settings and characters he encounters. One of the main themes of the memoirs is Casanovas love of women. He claims to have had over 120 lovers throughout his life and often speaks of his amorous exploits in great detail. However Casanovas writing also reflects the time period in which he lived and some of his attitudes and behaviors towards women may be viewed as problematic by modern standards. In addition to his romantic adventures Casanova was also involved in various political intrigues and espionage operations. He spent time in prison on multiple occasions and even managed to escape from a Venetian prison in 1756.
