The menace of right Iliac Fossa Pain after Appendectomy
English

About The Book

Surgeons all over the world perform appendectomies as the most commonly performed emergency abdominal surgery. Threshold for surgery is kept low considering the consequences otherwise. We noticed that a substantial number of such patients kept on visiting the surgical opd after surgery with complains of recurrent or persistent right iliac fossa pain which sometime was very similar to the pain felt preoperatively. This research was directed towards following and extensively investigating these patients to find out the cause of this menacing pain. Some of the causes were attributes of the surgery itself but a disturbing percentage of the patients had unrelated pathologies which may have been presented even before the surgery. This study will not only make the surgeons more cautious about the surgical procedure but also intrigue them about the accuracy of the surgical decision making. It will raise the inevitable question Are we overdoing it?
