The Mingwe Kyasuta

<p>For all of his life Kyasuta and his tribe held the strategic portages and trails through the wilderness of the Ohio country. But Kyasuta knew the days had come when he and his people would face a difficult struggle to maintain control over their long-held territories.</p> <p>As the leader of the Seneca Wolf Clan Kyasuta had stood watch over the Ohio River. He was a warrior a war chief and a diplomat during very critical times in our early history. Whether it was peace or war Kyasuta?s presence would be felt by the new white settlers in the old Northwest Territory.</p> <p><i>The Mingwe Kyasuta</i> tells the story of the European settlers encroachment upon the land west of the Appalachian Mountains from Kyasuta?s perspective. It gives insight into the Native American tribes who lived east of the Mississippi River during a time when the Ohio country was the west and when the Ohio River was the western jump off point into the New World.</p>
