The Modification of Jute Fibre by Sul Phonation

About The Book

The book investigates the modification of jute fibre by sulphonation and blending of the sulphonated jute fibre with other natural fibres. Though jute is one of the natural fibres some of its features are not suitable for special uses such as textile fibre and thus requires modification. Among other modification processes sulphonation can be proved as a prospective one.The sulphonated jute fibres were mechanically processed to make yarns. The yarns numbering 8 16 (276 tex) and 4 1b (1-10 tex) were produced following the conventional jute mill processing lines. From the experiments it was found that sulphonation do not damage the dimensional and geometrical properties of jute fibre but morphological structure was changed. In the suiphonated -fibre no damage and disintegration of the fibre cells were noticed except swelling of the secondary walls till rounding up of the cross-sectional periphery and closing up of the lumens. The blending of the sulphonated jute fibre with cotton wool and silk was another successful attempt. The physical properties of these yarns were determined with respect to the same numbered yarns of cotton. The 50% and 65% of the sulphonated jute.
