The Mystery of Central Park

The novel opens with the discovery of a dead woman in Central Park. The woman is identified as Evelyn Howard the daughter of a wealthy businessman. Dick Treadwell a young man who is in love with Evelyn''s cousin Penelope Howard is tasked with solving the mystery of her death. Treadwell begins his investigation by talking to Evelyn''s friends and family. He learns that Evelyn was a kind and gentle person and that she had no known enemies. He also learns that Evelyn had been seeing a man in secret but she had never revealed his identity to anyone. Treadwell''s investigation leads him to a number of suspects including Evelyn''s ex-lover a rejected suitor and a jealous rival. However he is unable to find any concrete evidence linking any of them to her murder. As Treadwell gets closer to solving the mystery he finds himself in danger. He is attacked by unknown assailants and he receives threatening letters. However he is determined to solve the case no matter the cost.
