The Needs of Families with Children with a Disability

About The Book

The publication describes life of families with children with a disability. Results of qualitative research and the practice shows that there is not sufficient attention paid to the family as a whole which means the background that is so necessary and required for the healthy development of children with visual disabilities is not given sufficient attention. The research group consisted of 19 families of children with disability aged from two to ten years. With respect to the stated aim of the research a qualitative approach was used and a multiple case study was developed that allows the gaining of greater insight into the issue through several cases. Both clinical and test methods were used for developing particular case studies. The data obtained by clinical methods (interviews observation visiting in the family) were further processed using qualitative data analysis. The data obtained by test methods (questionnaires FHI and SSQ6) were correlated with the data processed qualitatively. The thesis resulted in a number of recommendations for both service providers and other families at the early stages of acceptance of their child''s impairment.
