At the confluence of two fields literary and heritage our research has both analytical and conservative concerns. The basic premise is that the short story Niger's young literary heritage has not been given its due. Few works are devoted to taking an analytical look at it and no anthology project has been dedicated to it to date. However the main objective of the present research is to contribute to a better knowledge and to the beginning of an illustrative and useful valorization of the Nigerian short story. Starting from its global and African specificities we have examined the Nigerian short story from its European heritage to its current themes and aesthetics. We have then made available to the public an annotated collection of eleven short stories as a first step towards a larger work to come. The collection presented here is preceded by a reminder of the fundamentals of anthologizing its objectives and methodology.
