The Painter and the Sea

<p>Grietje van der Meer's determined quest to find lost Dutch artworks is interrupted by her wish to help an old friend deal with his corrupt lawyer. Her aspiration is to become master of her own painting studio in 18th century Delft.</p><p></p><p>Penurious schoolmaster David Miller and his daughter Rose suffer under the auspices of an authoritarian church and a bigoted burgh council. An unexpected legacy brings an inner moral conflict but also offers a route to securing his family and his own ambition.</p><p></p><p>Rose Miller is destined to look after her widowed father until her friendship with a boy called Adam Smith in her father's new school drives her to greater ambition.</p><p>Two masters a sea apart become inextricably linked as they motivate and encourage a new generation of enlightened young minds.</p>
