Shirley Vickers grew up in West London where she endured a lonely and miserable childhood with the singular exception of her friendship with a girl named Grace. On leaving school she became even more disillusioned as her life spiraled downhill. The Passion and the Madness is the story of Shirleys tumultuous search for the only thing she really wanted from life--that being to love and be loved.
