Six patients from a mental health hospital grow resltess and manage an escape from their confinements to search for the Garden of Eden in a place called Torreya State Park. In their prodigal journey they get mixed up with some illegal drugs dealers. Dramatic flashbacks depict how each of the patients became residents in the hospital. Fights shoot-outs kidnapping barge jumping a runaway skateboard and rampaging dog challenging therapy sessions and daring escapes combine to create a novella that will inspire shock excite titillate and provoke. One patient is stunned by the resemblance between her missing father and a store manager who looks like the actor Jack Nicholson. Another an aspiring author writes a touching story about a dying girl and her poignant wish to have her favorite singer Willie Nelson visit her A third patient has a moving reunion with his older brother before the latter ships out to battle. A fourth patient saw her dreams of becoming an Olympic swimmer end; a fifth killed his father in rage; and another discovered that shoplifting could send one to a mental institution.
