In this book my interest was in the lived history of women in the West at the beginning of the twentieth century and in France in particular. I studied the feminist commitments in the artistic and social milieu that have as their object the emancipation of women through the interpretations of the plastic works representing the biblical myth of Genesis of Adam and Eve in different periods and with varied pictorial treatments. Thus the artists'' struggle for feminist emancipation the right to equality as well as the attack on patriarchal authority through artistic productions was examined according to its historical context. I have associated in my analysis The Primitive Eve with Paul Gauguin The Modern Eve to Tamara de Lempicka The Loving Eve to Marc Chagall The Free Eve to Niki de Saint Phalle and The Cyborgian Eve of the twenty-first century to the age of the machine and technology.
