The Prize

The novel follows the story of a young Englishwoman named Phyllis Tremayne who travels to India with her family. In India Phyllis finds herself caught up in a web of intrigue romance and adventure. Central to the plot is the concept of the prize which represents different things to various characters in the story. As Phyllis navigates the complexities of life in colonial India she encounters a diverse cast of characters including British officials Indian royalty and local inhabitants. Along the way she grapples with questions of identity loyalty and the clash of cultures.
