It was rejected by many publishers but was later published posthumously in 1857 under her pen name Currer Bell.The novel is written in a first person narrative and tells the story of a young man named William Crimsworth from his point of view. It covers his formative years his appointment and career as a teacher at an all-girls school in Brussels and his personal relationships. The Professor is based on Brontës own experiences in school.Charlotte Brontë had four published novels: Jane Eyre (1847) Shirley (1849) Villette (1853) and The Professor (1857).
