The Project of the Nicaragua Canal

About The Book

This work gives an insight on the importance of nationalism and economic development in the current politics of the project of the Nicaragua canal. An analysis has been made on the importance of the concepts nationalism economic development and state sovereignty in the current project reflecting this on the anti-imperialist discourse of Sandinista politics as it has been known for decades. A historical comparison is made on how different Nicaraguan governments dreamt about an interoceanic canal for the country. An outline has been made on the political and economic incentives for a canal and the nationalist discourse that may or may not go along with it. This helps to further understand the nationalist anti-imperialist debate in Latin-America and the objective of economic growth for Nicaragua as Latin-America its second-poorest country. Existing theory on the terms has been used as a reference for the current academic and public debate of the actual project. It is important to see this book as an introductory approach on some of the most important concepts of the politics of a complex and historical project.
